Welcome all parents!  This page is just for you.  Your child is enrolled in one of Family and Consumer Science's courses.  These courses are designed to give your child a wealth of Life Skills.  Each class offers it's own set of challenges and discoveries.  Listed below are some facts for your information.  Remember that you, your child and I are a team and as a team if we work together we will be successful!

For Your Information...

1.) All Family and Consumer Science classes: Foods and Nutrition, Child Development, Life Skills or Home and Career Skills (HCS) are 2 marking periods long or one semester.

2.) Your child was given a Grade Expectation Sheet in the beginning of the semester. This Grade Expectation sheet (see handouts under the appropriate course) outlines how your child's grade will be calculated for each marking period.

3.) Homework is assigned in each class.  Homework assignments are given 3-4 times a week in accordance with the District's Homework Policy.  Each assignment should be written in black or blue ink and be written clearly and concisely.  Homework assignments will be posted in the homework section.  Where ever possible, I have  posted copies of worksheets on my website under the homework section.  If a worksheet is available it will be highlighted in blue.  Additional copies of the worksheet can be printed from home, if necessary

4.) Child Development and HCS Classes: Projects constitute 20 percent of your child's marking period grade.  Projects are assigned with clear due dates.  Projects should be worked on each over the time frame given and not left to last minute.  These projects are designed to allow your child to demonstrate their understanding of unit concepts and to extend their knowledge in a particular area.  Projects will posted on each class' page.  You can consult the appropriate page for your child to learn more about these projects and when they are due.

5.) Independent Life Skills Classes: Projects constitute 30 percent of your child's marking period grade.  Projects are assigned with clear due dates.  Projects should be worked on each over the time frame given and not left to last minute.  These projects are designed to allow your child to demonstrate their understanding of unit concepts and to extend their knowledge in a particular area.  Projects will posted on the Special Projects page.  You can consult this page to learn more about these projects and when they are due.

6.) Should your child be absent from school on a given day, it is his or her responsibility to obtain the notes that were missed and any homework assigned.  It is highly recommended that your child team up with a classmate to facilitate the exchange of notes or other materials.

7.) Should you need to reach me to discuss your child's progress in class, you can call me at the main office (516) 488-9200 or you can e-mail me at MNadasky@sewanhaka.k12.ny.us.  If you call the office, please be sure to leave a telephone number where you can be reached both during the school day as well as evenings.  A cell phone number would be most helpful.
